Annual CE Renewal Requirements

Dental Assistants who hold an RDA Certificate or a Pit and Fissure Sealant Certificate are required to complete CE annually.  

CE Hour Requirements

  • 12 hours – if you hold two or more certificates
  • 6 hours – if you hold one certificate

Requirement to Complete CE

  • Dental Assistants are not required to complete CE during their first registration period.  This period begins immediately after receiving your first certificate and ends when your first certificate expires. 
  • Begin collecting CE after your certificate is renewed.  All CE should be completed before the certificate expires annually.   There is no annual CE requirement to maintain a Nitrous Monitoring Certificate.

Course Requirements

RDA Certificate Holders
  • CE must be related to the duties of a dental assistant.
  • CE can be self-study, interactive computer courses, or classroom lecture courses.  
Pit and Fissure Sealant Certificate Holders

Pit & Fissure Sealant Certificates issued after September 1, 2009: 

  • Complete 6 hours of CE related to the duties of a dental assistant.

Pit & Fissure Sealant Certificates issued before September 1, 2009: 

  • Complete 6 hours of CE in technical and scientific coursework.  No more than 3 hours may be self-study.
