Upcoming Board Meeting Notice

The Texas State Board of Dental Examiners with be holding its next board meeting on September 22, 2017, starting at 8:30 A.M.  The board meeting will be held in the Hobby Building in Tower 2, Suite 225.

Changes Going Into Effect on September 1, 2017

In accordance with SB 313, passed by the Texas Legislature during the 85th Legislative Session, several changes will take effect on September 1, 2017: 

  • The TSBDE will no longer accept anonymous complaints.

  • There will no longer be a separate anesthesia portability application.  The applicant will be required to indicate on the anesthesia application if they are providing anesthesia services in more than one location and they may be required to list those locations.  (see Texas Occupations Code 268.1553)

  • The Dental Lab Certification Council (DLCC) and Dental Hygiene Advisory Committee (DHAC) will be abolished.  

  • The Coronal Polishing and Pit & Fissure certificates for dental assistants will be abolished.

Controlled Substances Registration Information

On September 1, 2016 the controlled substances registration became part of the regular dental license renewal,  a small fee increase is included in the renewal fee to cover this registration.  Dentists will not receive a separate controlled substances registration certificate.  Prescribing dentists are still required to keep their DEA registration active, but other than that, there are no additional steps needed to continue prescribing.  Click here for more information about controlled substances registrations.
