Purpose of a Fingerprint Criminal Background Check
Criminal background checks are performed on all dentist, dental hygienists, and dental assistant registration applicants for licensure in Texas. A criminal background check must be completed through the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) based on the set of fingerprints you provide Morpho Trust (IdentoGO).
The Texas State Board of Dental Examiners (TSBDE) cannot accept fingerprint cards or criminal background check results mailed to you. The TSBDE cannot accept results that were completed by another facility, even if the previous check was through the DPS and the FBI.
Fingerprinting Process
Applicants will be notified via email with instructions on how to submit a fingerprint session with includes the agency service code once the online application has been submitted.
Applicants submitting a paper application will be notified via email with the fingerprint instructions on how to schedule a fingerprint session once the application has been accepted. Note: An application must be on file with the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners prior to the release of the fingerprint information.
YOU MAY NOT SCHEDULE A FINGERPRINT SESSION UNTIL AN APPLICATION HAS BEEN RECEIVED.
Background Check: IdentoGO charges a fee for the background check. Refer to the FAST Pass Application for the current fee.
Fingerprint Cards. If you are in an area that does not offer digital fingerprinting services, you will need to obtain a fingerprint card obtained from a local law enforcement agency, embassy, or IdentoGo Service Center. Each organization may charge a fee for their services. You may request fingerprint cards from the TSBDE via e-mail at licensinghelp@tsbde.texas.gov Include your full name and mailing address in your request. Please note TSBDE must have an application on file for you prior to submitting your request.
