How Do I Get a New Texas License?

Determine which method of licensure you qualify for and read the requirements thoroughly.  Every method of licensure is different and has its requirements.

Licensure by Examination. Persons applying for a License by Examination (except Military) may complete an application online on the State of Texas Licensing System website. You will receive an email copy of your online application and payment summary at the end of your online session. An online account is required.

Other Methods of Licensure may not apply online and are required to submit a paper application along with all requirements. The other methods of licensure include the following:

The TSBDE requires an applicant to provide a SSN as a part of the licensure, certification or registration process. The SSN of an applicant for a license, certificate, or registration or other legal authorization issued by the TSBDE for the practice of dentistry is confidential and not subject to disclosure under Chapter 552 of the Texas Government Code.


Mail Your Application to the Board

​If You Apply Online - Applies only to Licensure by Examination not using military credentials:

Mail a copy of your Online Application and Payment Summaries along with all supplemental documents required for licensure. It is not necessary to complete the paper application if you applied online.​ Fingerprinting instructions will be emailed to you upon completion of your online application. Fingerprint results and background checks completed by another board or agency cannot be accepted. Fingerprint results are only valid for six (6) months.

 

If you Apply by Mail:

Mail your notarized application and supporting documents required for licensure to the TSBDE.​

Upon acceptance of your application, licensing staff will email you fingerprinting instructions.  Fingerprint results and background checks completed by another board or agency cannot be accepted. Fingerprint results are valid for only six (6) months.
