How Do I Get A New Texas License?

  1. Choose your Profession.
  2. Read the General Licensure Requirements.
  3. Select Your Method of Licensure.
    1. ​Determine which method of licensure you qualify for and read the requirements thoroughly. Every method of licensure is different.

  4. Complete the Application Process.
    1. Licensure by Examination. Persons applying for a License by Examination (except Military) may complete an application online on the State of Texas Licensing System website. This website is available through the TSBDE website at: www.tsbde.texas.gov. You will receive an e-mail copy of your online application and payment summary at the end of your online session. All applicants must first set-up an online account then apply for a new license.
    2. Other Methods of Licensure. If applying for any other type of licensure (e.g. Military Licensure by Examination, Licensure by Credentials, Reinstating a Retired or Canceled License, etc., you must apply by mail at this time.
    3. Social Security Number (SSN). The TSBDE requires an applicant to provide a SSN as a part of the licensure, certification or registration process. The SSN of an applicant for a license, certificate, or registration or other legal authorization issued by the TSBDE for the practice of dental hygiene is confidential and not subject to disclosure under Chapter 552 of the Texas Government Code.
  5. Mail Your Application to the Board
    1. If You Apply Online.  
      1. Mail a copy of your Online Application and Payment Summaries along with all supporting documents required for licensure. It is not necessary to complete the paper application if you applied online.
      2. Board Scores, Verifications, Transcripts. National and Regional Board Scores and Verifications of Licensure and Transcripts may be mailed directly to the TSBDE from the issuing institution. If scores or a verification are mailed by the applicant the copy(ies) must be notarized or be in a sealed envelope.
      3. Fingerprinting. The Fingerprint Criminal History Records check must be completed using the Texas forms available on the TSBDE Website. Fingerprint results and background checks completed by another board or agency cannot be accepted. Fingerprint results are only valid for six (6) months.
    2. If you Apply by Mail.
      1. Mail your notarized application and supporting documents required for licensure to the TSBDE.
      2. Board Scores, Verifications, Transcripts. National and Regional Board Scores and Verifications of Licensure and Transcripts may be mailed directly to the TSBDE from the issuing institution. If scores or a verification are mailed by the applicant the copy(ies) must be notarized or be in a sealed envelope.
